Segment ranking summary

Shoprite Holdings ranks 36th among food retailers and 115th among food and beverage manufacturers/processors. Shoprite Holdings’ best performance against its peers is in governance and strategy, where it ranks in the top 10 among food retailers and top 30 among manufacturers and processors. However, the company is lagging against its peers in the other measurement areas. In environment, the company ranks in the bottom grouping in both segments, with a lack of disclosure on topics its peers are already addressing, such as tackling deforestation in its supply chain or sustainable sourcing practices. Similarly, in nutrition, Shoprite Holdings ranks poorly against its peers due to limited disclosure on key topics such as responsible marketing or clear and transparent labelling. Nonetheless, the company’s performance in governance and strategy suggests the company is in a position to translate its overall sustainability strategy into practice across the other measurement areas going forward.
