Founded in 1969, Les Mousquetaires is a privately-owned retailing group based in France and operating internationally in Poland, Portugal and Belgium. It is divided into different retailing segments (Food, DIY and Mobility) which operate independently from one another. In food retailing, the company is best known for its Intermarche and Netto brands and overall owns 2,364 sales outlets; 1,832 in France, 249 in Portugal, 204 in Poland and 79 in Belgium.
Les Mousquetaires (Intermarche) sits at the bottom of the ranking among both food retailers and food and beverage processors. The company lacks transparency and lags in all measurement areas. Furthermore, unlike most of its peers, it does not disclose a sustainability strategy and governance mechanism. While it discloses some elements in environment, it is largely behind most of its direct peers and does not provide evidence of tackling its greenhouse gas emissions. Finally, it significantly underperforms in social inclusion as it fails to tackle all topics in social inclusion, most notably farmers’ productivity and resilience.
