Bachoco

Industrias Bachoco (Bachoco) is one of the largest companies in the Mexican poultry industry as well as one of the largest poultry producers globally. Its main business lines are chicken, eggs, balanced feed, swine and other products. Bachoco owns and manages more than 1,000 facilities, organised in 9 productive complexes and 66 distribution centres in Mexico, as well as a production complex in the United States (thanks to the 2017 acquisition of the vertically integrated poultry producer OK Food). Bachoco operates in two segments. The first is poultry (consisting of chicken and egg operations), the second is livestock, balanced feed for animal consumption and other by-products. It also has a laboratory that produces animal vaccines.

Segment ranking summary

Bachoco is active in the animal proteins and food and beverage manufacturers/processors segments, where it ranks 54th out of 92 and 161st out of 233, respectively. The company is among the weaker performers in both segments, predominantly because of an overall lack of commitments and targets in the environment measurement area and a lack of policies setting out its approach to human rights and social inclusion. While the company has started the journey to address health and nutrition by demonstrating commitments and activities related to food safety and workforce nutrition, the company lags behind its peers when it comes to contributing to the increased availability, accessibility and affordability of healthy foods.
