Linking people and planet for effective due diligence
The development of human rights and environmental due diligence represents a critical step in halting the destruction of biodiversity. By embedding these standards into business and investment practices, companies and financial institutions are held accountable for their environmental impact and the human rights implications of their activities. This approach helps identify, prevent, and mitigate practices that contribute to deforestation, habitat loss, and ecosystem degradation, which are key drivers of biodiversity loss.
Effective due diligence not only safeguards natural ecosystems but also ensures that communities dependent on these environments are protected from exploitation and harm, aligning economic activities with the urgent need to preserve our planet’s biodiversity.
This policy briefing uses WBA’s Nature Benchmark to understand the current state of human rights and environmental due diligence.
