Why benchmarks?

The pathway to a sustainable future, as outlined in the SDGs, can only be achieved through transformational change. Business can play a key role in leading these transformations by creating sustainable, inclusive and innovative solutions. In order for this to be possible it is crucial to address the missing flow of information that prevents innovation and improvement.

Benchmarks provide an essential tool for measuring and comparing corporate performance on the SDGs. They equip financial institutions, companies, governments, civil society and individuals with the information they need to exert their full influence and encourage others to do the same. By supporting the private sector in its role to deliver on the SDGs, the WBA can help companies move from aspiration to action to achievement.
